A water crisis is a situation where the available potable, unpolluted water within a region is less than that region's demand. Today, over 1.1 billion people worldwide lack access to safe drinking water. Out of 101 million Filipinos, nine million are affected by unimproved, unsafe and unsustainable water. Families without a safe water source in or near their home often spend significant time and energy collecting water. It is said by Waves for Water that kids drink from the same streams where animals and humans bathe and relieve themselves. Safe and clean water is a basic right, but there are so many who are deprived in remote rural areas all over the Philippines. Only 5 percent of the population in the Philippines has proper connections to sewerage systems, over 9 million Filipinos have no access to clean water, and more than 30 million of the population has no access to sanitary toilets.

With this in mind, SPLASH would like to conduct seminars to give people information regarding water scarcity and proper sanitation. We also wanted to tackle laws in line with this such as R.A. 9275 or The Philippine Clean Water Act. Lastly, We would like to build water filtration systems to be convenient for people who cannot access clean water near them.

Make a difference. #MakeASPLASH
